A DISCOVERY WORTH SHARING
Alcohol once meant a cosmetic powder
Alcohol did not originally mean a drink or ethanol. The word came from Arabic al-kuhul, kohl, a fine powder used around the eyes, and early European use referred to a fine powder produced by sublimation.
Why it’s interesting
Its meaning later shifted toward distilled substances and the modern chemical sense.
