A DISCOVERY WORTH SHARING
Panic comes from the god Pan
Panic comes from Greek panikon, meaning something connected with Pan, the god of woods and fields. Mysterious noises in lonely places were traditionally blamed on him and were thought to cause sudden, contagious fear.
Why it’s interesting
The mythological explanation survives in a very common modern word for intense fear.
