A DISCOVERY WORTH SHARING

Suede literally came from gloves of Sweden

Suede comes from the French phrase gants de Suède, literally “gloves of Sweden.” English shortened the phrase until the country name alone became the word for the soft type of leather.

Why it’s interesting

The material name is therefore an old geographical label in disguise.
